Keep Your Data In The Cloud

Keep your data in the cloud

Against the backdrop of war news in Ukraine somehow imperceptibly passed the message that the US court ordered Microsoft to transfer data to the US government overseas customers.
Court in New York ordered Microsoft Corp to transmit the letter to the US government and other client credentials that are stored in the corporate data center in Ireland".

Microsoft and a number of other US companies challenged this measure. According to them, taking customer information stored in foreign countries, incompetent expands the powers of the federal prosecutors.

However, US District Judge Loretta Presque decided that the data must be transferred irrespective of their place of storage by a warrant, which will take a federal magistrate. "It's a question of control, and not the location information", said Presque.
The judge said that it suspends the decision in order to allow Microsoft to appeal its decision to the Circuit Court of Appeals.

Microsoft's position was supported by a number of high-tech companies, including AT & T Inc, Apple Inc, Cisco Systems Inc and Verizon Communications Inc. Companies are worried that they could lose billions of dollars that will go to their foreign competitors if it turns out that the data of their clients may be subject to confiscation by US investigators anywhere in the world.
What does this mean for us? In fact - the end of the tale of a cloudless storage and processing of data in the "cloud".

From now on you dear readers, you know, you have no doubt that your data (such as e-mail, backup your smartphone, documents, etc.) is not enough that can be viewed, they also can be given law enforcement (but only if she could) system.

In fact, it is elevated to a principle of the law of Google. "All that you store on our servers can be used by us without your consent".

But! If earlier this was seen only Google - now it can all be suspected.
What to do? I can only advise. If you are going to be stored in the "cloud" important data - get used to the fact that your sensitive data should be encrypted, and always be stored and sent only in encrypted form. They should only be decrypted at the PC (the server), where they are processed. Of course, this will require a significant change in your usual way of working, but here and you care about their safety or not.
